THE SHED GARDEN CLUB SEPTEMBER 2026 NEWSLETTER

A warm welcome to everyone in the Garden Club and our first newsletter.

Each month, we’ll be sharing seasonal garden jobs, helpful tips and advice.

We’ll also keep you up to date with upcoming events and activities at the shed.

We hope you find the newsletter useful and enjoyable.

We look forward to growing, learning and enjoying our gardens together.

JOBS IN THE GARDEN

September is the perfect time to start getting on top of those garden jobs while the weather is still kind. Getting these jobs started will make the autumn and winter months much easier.

~ Collect seeds from your favourite plants to save for next year. Dry and store in a cool place.

~ Sow hardy annuals for early flowering next year. Seeds to sow, field poppies, scabious, calendula, sweet peas, wall flowers, yellow rattle.

~ Plant spring flowering bulbs. Tulips are best planted after the first frost.

~ Divide and replant perennials that have finished flowering.

~ Keep on top of weeds.

~ Continue dead heading.

~ Keep watering newly planted plants.

~ Water and feed container plants.

BIRDS

Now is a great time to clean and refill your garden bird feeders and water baths.

Clean them regularly with mid detergent, rinse thoroughly and leave them to dry completely before refilling.

Fresh clean water is just as important as food, especially when natural sources are limited.

A little extra care can make a big difference to our garden birds.

Talk on water butts and irrigation.

Talk on taking cuttings and propagation.

Demonstration of a bulb lasagne, bulbs for sale.

Demonstration on forcing bulbs for an indoor colourful festive season, also great for gifting.

Talk on ponds and a wildlife garden.

Workshop on how to make a planter.

Christmas Wreaths – demonstration in making your own door wreath and opportunity to purchase a wreath kit.

Christmas Wreath Demo – Wednesday 25th November 10 to 12 at the Shed.
